Consultation on new residential property developer tax

On 10 February 2021, the Government announced that it would introduce a new Residential Property Developer Tax as part of its Building Safety Package. The Government is now consulting on the design of that tax ahead of its inclusion in the 2021-22 Finance Bill. The consultation runs until 22 July 2021.

Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee report published

The Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee has issued a cladding remediation follow-up report. We support the recommendations of the Committee.

Consultation on new code of practice for external walls

The Ministry of Housing, Community and Local Government (MHCLG) has launched a consultation on a new code of practice to assess external walls and cladding systems. The deadline to comment is 20 May 2021.

Our insurance meeting with ABI and BIBA

Cladding crisis brought all my fears to the surface

I bought my apartment in 2018 as a first-time buyer. It took two jobs, a nine-to-five and an evening shift, to get a deposit. After a bad experience buying a flat off-plan (which ended with going to court to get my deposit back), I thought a flat that was built and ready to move into was a safe choice.

Two years later, stuck in the home I bought in good faith, I can no longer see a path to any future I had planned. This flat has gone from being my personal space, in which I was free to be myself, to a place I fear and despise due to the cladding crisis.
