Why are so many leaseholders still unable to remortgage or sell their homes, despite previous assurances that banks would lend on properties affected by cladding and building safety defects?

Our report from Aviva’s 2023 AGM

For some time, we have encouraged leaseholders to join Annual General Meetings for companies involved in the building safety crisis. We have attended developer AGMs ourselves and facilitated the attendance of leaseholders at these in the past.

As part of our ongoing campaign to ensure all relevant stakeholders play their part in bringing a fair and speedy resolution to this crisis, we are also focusing on other key players, such as building owners, insurers and mortgage lenders.

Learning lessons from Ireland’s fully funded remediation scheme for apartment defects

“Really importantly, this gives real hope for people, that they’re going to get their homes back together and they can get their lives back together,” said the Minister for Housing, as he announced that his government would fully fund 100% of remediation costs for construction defects in all apartments across the country.
No, this isn’t a dream. This is Ireland, where a precedent has recently been set – which we are looking for Michael Gove to follow in England and Wales.
